Free 50 States Unit Planner for Your Homeschool!

I absolutely LOVE teaching unit studies. If you’ve been checking out this blog for awhile, then you are well aware of that already, I’m sure!

Because of this love of unit studies, we are a Gather Round Homeschool family. This family-style curriculum provides various unit studies that can be taught in 4-5 weeks depending on if you do a 4 or 5 day a week plan….but let’s be honest, you can do it however you like!

And this free printable comes from me doing one of these units however I liked! 😀

We currently just started the North America Unit Study and I had been going back and forth for awhile on whether or not to stretch the unit out to study the 50 States. I kept thinking that it was going to go really long if I did, but at the same time I knew I could make it fun and wanted to take the time to introduce my kids to each of our states.

As you may have guessed already, I decided to just go for it and cover the 50 states! And ya’ll, I am SO looking forward to it! (I’m a geography girl…anyone else?!?)

I use the Lesson Planner pages provided in the front of each Gather Round Unit Study to loosely jot down what our topic is that day and any activities or recipes I hope to get to. The problem came when I didn’t have nearly enough room to also plan for 50 days of states!

So, I made my own!

You will see that this 50 States Unit Planner is very basic, but sometimes basic is best because it allows us to just write in and organize it however we see fit.

There are 50 boxes, one for each state, and a notes section at the end to jot down anything that needs remembering.

I am going through the states based on the regions listed throughout our North America Unit, but you can use this however you want!

This is how I’m using mine. In each rectangle I’ve listed the state we will be studying that day, a recipe we will be making and a group or station activity that I would like to get to.

I don’t add a lot of details because I really just use this as a visual reminder of what I need to have prepared for the day or week ahead!

Now you may be wondering…where are the 50 states lessons coming from?

And that would be a great question. 🙂

I had already bought the Our 50 States Curriculum from Notgrass History last year because I knew it would be something I wanted to do with my girls eventually. (I wasn’t kidding about the geography thing! :D)

I’m going to utilize that family style, doing the lesson for each state on that day. I’ve also created a Youtube playlist for when I want to show them some of the places and the Notgrass curriculum even includes a playlist of songs for each state!

Any activities we are doing either came from the curriculum or from resources I found on Pinterest.

Here is my 50 States Unit Study board if you’d like to use it yourself! It includes activities and recipes for each state. 🙂

I think that’s about all there is to it!

Except for the free download, right? I haven’t forgotten!

You can grab it for your unit planning below!
